Best Budget Hot Tent Stove
TMS Portable Camping Wood Stove Tent Heater
Get it on Amazon for $99.95
This stove is an excellent bargain for the price. It’s what everyone else said, the first time you use it, the black paint will burn off, so don’t use it indoors the first time.
Okay, I’m really impressed with this stove. Sure, you get what you pay for, but I think this stove is great for the money. It’s not ideal, as other reviewers have mentioned, but if you don’t mind tweaking it a little, it’s great for the money.
The greatest issue with this tent wood stove did not use high temp paint. As soon as you light your first fire, all the paint will bubble, flake, and fall off. That said, it wasn’t a big deal to me. While the paint bubbled, I took a wire brush to the paint as it flaked off, to speed up the process.
Once the portable tent stove has cooled, wipe it down and repaint it with 1200° paint. I also advise putting some high heat rope around the tent stove door to keep it secure.
I wish they made more pipe sections, such as elbows such as 90 degrees, 45 degrees, and 30 and 60 degree angles, so you could configure the stove for various tents, shelters, RVs, and roof angles. Because the stove pipe is non-standard, you cannot just go to a hardware store to get what you need. Instead, try looking for 2.75-inch pipes and fittings for an automotive intake system.
Overall, this tent wood stove is simple to assemble and disassemble and folds up into it’s own carrying case. Since this stove doesn’t come with instructions, we have some hacks to make this tent stove work you.
- Do an initial burn in outside so the gloss black paint flakes off, then repaint with high temperature paint.
- Bend the tent stove’s leg so that it doesn’t wobble
- Leave the rear vent closed – always
- Place a small amount wood in the back of the stove to light it and get it going, never the front
- Add the rest of your woo once the starting wood is burning nicely, close the door and keep the front vents open
If you don’t have access to wood where you are camping, you’ll need a quality backpacking hatchet to chop wood or gather twigs to fuel the stove.
Pros
- Great price!
- Fairly heavy
- Large cooking surface- Fits two soup pans or one fry pan and a coffee pot on top
- Puts out good amount of heat
Cons
- No instructions means that this wood stove tent is uses incorrectly
- Spark arrestor got gummed
- Paint finish bubbled
- Poor welding

Flotom Store – Secondary Burn Stove For Tent

This tent stove is an excellent choice if you are looking for a good-quality stove that comes with all the accessories you could need on your camping trip.
It is super easy to use and with the ingenious flat-top design you will be able to cook food on this stove. So you can keep warm and fry up delicious fish that you have caught that day.
That said, don’t cram it full of wood because it will get too hot and cause the coating to flake off from the heat. We noticed it started on the metal piece that holds the pipes upward and then on the top and sides.
Overall, this stove is of excellent quality which is one reason that we love it so much. But our favorite thing about this product is the accessories that come with it.
They make it so much easier to use this stove and integrate it into any tent you have. We highly recommend this stove if you are looking for a product to keep you warm and serve as a means to cook food in cold weather.
Pros
- Shelves are sturdy and Easy to clean
- High heat output: Only 2-3 small logs needed to heat up tent

Overall, OneTigris makes quality hammock tents and this certainly was able to stand up against the elements. It was warm inside even though there was snow on the ground and the waterproof fabric kept the inside nice and dry.
We really liked the hammock feature, it’s just a fun thing that the brand should include with their backpacking tents.
However, the only downside to this hammock tent is that tent poles are not included. Basically, we had to spend more money on features that should have been included.
But, overall this product is a really good budget option and certainly worth a try if you are just dipping your toes into camping.

One Tigris- Tiger Roar Portable Wood Burning Stove
Get it on Amazon for $259.98
This OneTigris tent may not come with an actual stove, but the company does sell tent stoves at an affordable price. So with a few extra clicks, you can find yourself with this amazing product.
This winter tent stove has an adjustable air intake valve, heat resistant glass window, and a chimney damper, all of which will make your life so much easier when camping. The stove has adjustable air flow, damper and about 6 feet of pipe. That said, the only change I would like to see is a spark arrestor or included.
But if you want to make your own spark arrestor, take a 14.5 ounce can of food (empty of course) and drill a bunch of holes.
It’s a bit heavy, so you don’t want to use this as a backpacking stove. Instead, shell out the money and get a foldable titanium one, if backpacking without a sled. But if you’re car camping, then this is probably for you.
We found that this tent stove was really worth our time and money. It is made from top-of-the-line materials and is super easy to use. That said, only burn hardwood in very small pieces, since larger logs will create high heat and warp the stove. Keep the heat in the medium range as best as possible.
We highly recommend it to anyone looking for a stove that can be used in a tent, like all the others on this list. And you can buy the OneTigris Tiger Roar Tent Stove and OneTigris Rock Fortress Hot Tent Combo if you need winter camping gear.
Pros
- Very compact
- Easy to carry
- Heats our 10 x12 cabin well
- Everything is ready to go- no assembly other than the stovepipe.
- Sturdy
Cons
- No spark arrestor
- Edges are unfinished, there are some sharp edges
- Dampener can loosen and not adjustable (it only opens or closes)
- Flue pipes aren’t long enough for tents taller than 5 ft tall.
- Pull out feet are solid but wobbly on snow or soft ground.

If you are looking for a large yet portable stove that fits perfectly in this amazing tent, then look no further. This camping portable wood stove and firebox will keep you warm and allow you to have a nice hot cup of coffee after a long day in the great outdoors.
We put this stove in a 10’x10′ treehouse in the mountains and it kept us warm even when the treehouse was uninsulated. Outside temperatures dropped as low as 15°F, and we were still toasty. It’s a great stove, and I’m not in a tent, but rather an enclosed space.
On the downside, there is a gap between the removable lid and door, which creates a little smoke. I’m going to put wood stove door gasket material on both to prevent this from happening again. It was the correct choice to buy this stove.
These portable wood stoves are designed for car camping, outfitter base camps, or campsites with help from pack animals (no, your boyfriend or husband doesn’t count). That said, it weighs 30 pounds and is not suitable for long hikes. A titanium folding version is available for campers who want to hike in the tent stove.
The WinnerWell Woodlander includes the stove body, five chimney pieces, one spark arrestor, and one ash scraper. So if you are looking for your first tent stove, then this is an excellent choice and will surely fit the bill. All in all, this is an excellent portable indoor wood stove.
Pros
- Did great burning Tacoma presto logs and wood bundles.
- Heats a 10 x12 tent well
Cons
- Gap in door and lid allows smoke to get out
- Warps when it gets too hot
Buyer’s Guide
In this section, we are going to go over some of the most important features you need to look out for and what you should consider before you are considering a cold weather tents with stoves.
Do You Need A Stove Friendly Tent?
This might seem like an odd question to pose at this point in the article, however before you spend a ton of money on a stove and a tent you might want to consider your needs.
It can be practical to go camping in a cold-weather tent and a stove. Below are several pros of bringing a tent like this on your camping trip:
- Size – A Hot tent with stove jack tends to be larger than average tents. If you want a hot tent with floor that has the capacity to comfortably hold several people, gear, and stove, then this might be a good choice for you.
- Convenient Cooking – You get the luxury of cooking indoors and avoid the biting cold and unpleasant weather.
- Extra Warm – It is no secret that a cold weather tent with stove in it will be much warmer than an average tent. So, you should consider what time of year you are going camping and where, so that you can decide whether to spend the extra money on a tent as luxurious as this.
- Drying Gear – Having a stove in your tent is super convenient to dry wet gear or clothing. The added warmth will be beneficial to your comfort.
Well, those are the positives when it comes to using a tent that has a stove. But, let’s explore what the cons could be if you pick a tent like this:
- Bulky – It stands to reason that a cold-weather tent with a stove will have more layers which makes it bulkier to carry. On top of that, the double tent will be larger and take up more space in your car. Tent aside, you will be carrying a stove too. Add all your other essential gear and your camping trip suddenly becomes overburdened with stuff, putting a damper on the trip.
- Long Setup – Unfortunately, some hot tents may take a long time to set up. If you aren’t great at assembling tent poles, then we suggest the Russian Bear tents. Because they pop up, you won’t need a two-man team to set up your hot tent.
- Fire Hazard – Undoubtedly, anything that makes fire is risky to have in your tent. Most of these tents have flame-retardant fabric to keep you safe. That said, never leave a burning stove unattended because it takes is one ember falling onto a pair of socks to start a blaze.
- Carbon Monoxide – Because you have a fire in your tent you automatically run the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. This odorless gas is deadly. Certainly, make sure your hot tent is properly ventilated.
What Material Should You Consider?
You could easily buy a cold weather tents with stoves and only use during winter, but we recommend purchasing a tent you can use in any season.
Below is a list of the best material choices that you should consider for your new tent:
Nylon
This material is both lightweight and durable . Basically it’s a fantastic choice if you are roughing it. The main issue with this fabric is its tendency to melt when it gets hot and this can make using a stove in one of these tents a little scary. But as long as you make sure that your tent has a stove jack reinforced with fire-retardant material and you keep the stove away from the sides of the tent you should be alright.
Cotton
Cotton is a very versatile material and it is a great option for year-round use. If you want to waterproof your tent, treat it with waterproofing spray. On a side note, cotton is highly flammable so you may want to treat it with flame retardant, especially when using a stove inside.
Canvas
This fabric is breathable and highly durable which makes it also extremely versatile fabric for all season camping. You will need to make sure that your tent has waterproofing and flame retardant treatments but as a whole, this is a fantastic material that you should consider for your camping tents.
However, some canvas tents are not always treated. Manufacturers’ product descriptions should list this specification, which you can decide to pay extra to have treated.
Is the Tent Waterproof?
When you’re camping in the wilderness, one thing you don’t want to hear is water leaking into your tent. If you have experienced it, now is the time to improve the water resistance of your shelter. Before you leave on that multi-day trip.
- Apply Seam Sealer- to keep out moisture.
- Add a new coat of urethane coating under the rainfly and the tent floor. Treat both of these areas to avoid sleeping on wet tent floor
- Refresh the DWR- this durable water repellent coating means that water beads up and sheds water
If it hasn’t been treated, then treat a few coats of waterproof spray. It’s similar to preparing your hiking boots with a waterproof coating. Otherwise, your tent will get drenched when it rains, snows, or sleets.
Consider The Ventilation
Cold weather tents with stoves are basically hot tents with proper ventilation. Because they are used in a variety of weather conditions, ventilation helps to regulate the temperature inside the tent. In addition, it also prevents the build-up of condensation, which can lead to mold and mildew growth.
Vents near the top of hot tents can be opened or closed as needed. Some hot tents also have mesh panels used for ventilation.
There are typically two ways that people ventilate hot tents: through the door and through the stove pipe. Most cold-weather tents have a hole on top, for a stove and a pipe, to allow hot air to escape. Additionally, many hot tents have a second hole in the side of the tent near the door that allows cold air to enter the tent.
Hot Tent Safety
Some of the things you should keep in mind when using a stove in a hot tent include:
- Make sure your stove is properly vented. This will help to prevent the build-up of carbon monoxide, which can be dangerous.
- Keep an eye on your stove at all times. Never leave it unattended while burning.
- Be aware of the risk of fire. Keep flammable materials away from your stove, and make sure you have a fire extinguisher on hand in case of an emergency.
- Make sure your hot tent is well-ventilated. This will help to prevent the build-up of heat and smoke inside the tent. following these safety guidelines, you should be able to safely use a stove in a hot tent.
How Portable Is It?
Hot tent camping is a great way to enjoy the outdoors while staying warm and comfortable. However, it can be difficult to find a suitable spot to set up your hot tent, especially if you’re planning to camp in a remote location. Additionally, hot tents are not as portable as traditional tents, so you’ll need to plan ahead if you want to take your hot tent camping with you.
Find the lightest one possible for you or your group. When you are camping or hiking it is essential to consider the portability of your tent and stove. A long hike can seem like a lot longer when you are lugging impossibly big, cumbersome, and heavy gear.
The Stove Jack
The stove jack is a hole in the top of the hot tent that allows you to put a stove pipe through it and have a wood stove inside the tent. This is a great way to heat up the tent on cold nights. The best cold-weather tents with stoves should have a stove jack so you can cook and heat a tent.
Consider Tent Shape And Style
There are a variety of tent shapes and styles available on the market today. The most common tent shapes are rectangular, dome, and cabin. Other types are freestanding tents, wall tents, bell tents, A- Shape, Truck tents, and several others.
A Shape tents are the most popular choice for car camping and family camping trips. They offer a lot of space and are relatively easy to set up.
Dome tents are great for backpacking and solo camping trips. They are lightweight and easy to carry, but can be more difficult to set up.
Cabin tents are perfect for large groups or families. They offer plenty of space and are very comfortable, but can be quite heavy and difficult to transport.
When you are purchasing a tent you will need to be extra careful when you are considering the shape and style of it. How many people are you taking with you? How big is your campsite? Are you able to stake your tent, or must it be a freestanding tent?
There are several things that you need to think about which shape and style directly impact.
Below are several tent shapes and styles that you should consider:
Freestanding Tent
Freestanding tents are tents that do not require any guy lines or stakes to hold them up. This means that they can be set up and taken down much faster than traditional tents, and they are also much more versatile in terms of where they can be used.
Freestanding tents can be used on a variety of surfaces, including sand, snow, and even rock, because they don’t use tent stakes. If you are using your tent in cold weather, then look for one with a stove and stove jack, to heat your tent.
This type of tent is especially useful if you are camping in an area that has frozen ground. If you want a freestanding tent it might be a good idea to consider getting one with a frame. As a result, it won’t struggle to stay upright without stakes.
Wall Cabin Tent
Wall cabin tents are a type of tent that people use for camping or hunting. They make wall tents out of canvas or waterproof material, and have walls that extend all the way to the ground. This makes them more sturdy and weather-resistant than other types of tents, which can be important when camping in areas with severe weather conditions.
Wall tents typically have a large amount of interior space, making them ideal for groups or families who want to camp together.
If you need more floor space since you’ll have several campers in your tent, then find one without a pole in the center. With these kinds of tents, it is a good idea to look out for ones that have stove jacks on both sides of the roof so that you have more room.

Teepee Tent
Native Americans traditionally made teepee tents from animal skins and poles. They used them as portable homes and for temporary shelters while hunting or traveling. Today, some Native American tribes still use teepees, and they are also popular among campers and hikers.
Bell Tent
Bell tents are a type of tent that is typically characterized by its conical shape and large central opening. They are named after their bell-like shape, which allows them to be more stable in windy conditions and provides more interior space than traditional tents.
Bell tents are usually made from canvas or other waterproof materials, and they often have a stovepipe vent at the top to help ventilate the interior.
Indeed, you can identify this type of tent by its distinctive bell shape. The fabric is attached to the frame at the top, and then the sides of the fabric are pulled out and staked to the ground. This creates a large, open space inside the tent that is ideal for camping or other outdoor activities.
Dome Tent
These are not very common tents but they are a great alternative if you are looking for a tent to give you more headroom without the inconvenience of a sloping roof. Dome tents are popular for camping in cold weather, but not all will have a stove.

There is no definitive answer to this question since the appropriate height for a hot tent chimney depends on a number of factors. This is due to the size and shape of the hot tent, the type of fuel, the weather conditions, and the preferences of the people using the hot tent.
In general, however, most experts agree that a hot tent chimney should be at least two to three feet taller than the tallest point in the tent, to ensure adequate ventilation and prevent the build-up of dangerous levels of carbon monoxide. Also, there is less risk of the sparks getting to the canvas and improving the draw.
There are a few things you can do to keep warm camping, when cold weather hits, by using a hot tent stove burning all night:
First, make sure you have a good quality stove that is designed for hot tents.
Second, use dry, seasoned wood that has been cut into small pieces.
Third, keep the stove well-fed with small, consistent pieces of wood so that it doesn’t burn out. -Fourth, open the flue all the way so that there is plenty of airflow.
Finally, don’t forget to tend to the fire throughout the night, adding more wood as needed.
The best way to keep a fire burning in your stove all night long is to rake the coals toward the front of the wood stove and then put about seven large logs in a tight formation behind these coals.
Once you shut the door you should be able to experience the sweet warmth of your stove fire all night.
